Ute Pass Historical
Society places local artifacts on display at various locations for public
viewing and education. Most displays
are periodically revamped. This page
describes our current display locations.
We also make available exhibit material and photographs for
display by request for local events. Check the News & Events page of this
website for upcoming activities or contact the UPHS Office to request UPHS
support for your event.
Pikes Peak Museum
Our Pikes Peak Museum
experience begins in the Ute Pass Cultural
Center in Woodland Park, CO. Located within the Old Curiosity Gift
Shop, one finds many different artifacts related to various aspects of our
local heritage. This combination Gift Shop and Museum is staffed by
volunteers: see Gift Shop page for
hours, or schedule an appointment for a reserved tour by calling
719.686.7512.
Ute Pass
History Park
In conjunction with
the City of Woodland Park, UPHS offers a tour of local period buildings,
within a few easy steps of the Ute Pass Cultural Center
and the Ute Pass Historical Society’s Research Office. The buildings have been saved as their
original use transitioned, and are placed upon permanent foundations. Each building has a display of artifacts
from UPHS Archives. New acquisitions
continue to arrive, as we actively seek to enhance our portrayal of the
history of our area, our families and
communities. The UPHS Board of Directors wishes to acknowledge and express
our thanks to the elected officials and staff of the City of Woodland Park,
for their ongoing help with planning, developing, and maintaining Ute
Pass History
Park.
Library
The Rampart Library
District’s Woodland Park Library branch includes a local history
display, with items from the UPHS collections. Visit the Colorado Resource Room on the
third floor. The current display
includes Native American artifacts, many from the Ute Tribes. This exhibit is on display during Woodland
Park Library public hours: contact
them at 719.687.9281 for their schedule.
Again, we thank the Directors and staff of Rampart Library District
for their ongoing support and assistance in making this display available to
the public.
Centennial Trailhead
Located at 710 West
Midland Avenue in Woodland
Park, the Centennial Trailhead is a
good choice for the first time area visitor or long term resident, seeking to
familiarize themselves with aspects of the earliest history of the Ute Pass. Information is available on pre-historic
flora and fauna, Native American inhabitants, early exploration and
settlement by hunters, ranchers, farmers, ice-cutters, and miners, as well as
the arrival of the railroads.
Docent-led tours are available by appointment:
